Tarbiat Modarres University student Samaneh Ashnagar is working on a project to increase the effectiveness of sunscreens with the ability to release anti-cancerous substances with the help of nanotechnology.

Evidence points to the need to protect the skin against the sun’s rays, regardless of skin type and ethnicity, and most dermatologists recommend using sunscreens that protect against both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays.

“In this project we tried to add nanocomposite nanoparticles to the sunscreen and increase the effectiveness of ultraviolet ray absorption”, Ashnagar told Mehr News Agency this weekend.

Ashnagar said the current products on the market including organic and non-organic creams can contain toxic substances and carcinogens.

The new sunscreen will include the gradual release of anticarcinogens to increase their antioxidant capability, she added.

The nano structure of the cream helps slowly release the anti-cancerous compounds, and on the other hand, after applying the cream, its whiteness will not remain on the skin, she noted.
