The unlimited Internet package schemes proposed by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and backed by Telecoms Minister Mahmoud Vaezi has received a frosty reception from Internet service providers and users.

The proposed plan launched last week and sent to ISPs for approval includes a list of ‘unlimited’ Internet packages with lower costs to Internet subscribers. All the net companies, for obvious reasons, have said they are not interested.

Following the cold shoulder from Internet companies,  Vaezi said on his personal account that the proposal has been halted ‘for the time being,’  ICTNA reported.

Vaezi said “due to the huge backlash online over the new plan by subscribers and calls from relevant authorities to revoke it, we decided to halt the process for further consideration.

The unlimited data offer came following years of complaints by users about limited Internet packages; however, the package seems to differ from what the regulator had initially planned to offer as “unlimited” as it has its own limitations for data usage.

Head of Telecommunication Infrastructure Company of Iran, Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, had earlier  asked the minister to reconsider the plan due to the “undesirable” features in the packages.

It is not yet known whether the ministry will come up with another proposal after being ridiculed by both users and the ISPs.

The packages that were offered were  based on speed and data amount.
