A group of students at Tehran’s Kharazmi University have built and successfully tested a quadcopter with the help of instructors.
A quadrotor helicopter or quadrotor is a multirotor helicopter that is lifted and propelled by four rotors, which are also informally called drones.
Quadcopters are classified as rotorcraft, as opposed to fixed-wing aircraft, because their lift is generated by a set of rotors (vertically oriented propellers).
According to IRNA, the quadcopter built by the Iranian students can be used for photography, filming and transporting lightweight parcels. It can also be used as a rescue robot.
The quadcopter was successfully tested for the first time on Wednesday. Assisted by university professors, it was financially supported by the university’s scientific association that focuses on mechanical engineering and robotics projects.
Iran has made great strides in developing unmanned flying objects by recently organizing a competition by the private sector to test their viability as parcel delivery vehicles.
Iran’s aircraft laws are still designed to contend with manned aircraft and the use of drones in daily life remains limited, apart from the growing number of people using them to film areas around the country, especially in the mountains and forests of the north.
