Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization announced that the maritime radio system used on Kharg Island have been updated to comply with international standards. In order to comply with the recent initiative of International Maritime Organization, the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue, and the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea, Iranian authorities upgraded the maritime radio system used in the field to provide better and more secure communications. The announcement does not say whether the system was produced by an Iranian company or imported. According to PMO, the new system's support data and voice encryption can be accessed swiftly and more easily than the former communications system. Users also can use the system for holding virtual conferences. The system also records all the exchange of information for later references.
