Members of the National Center of Cyberspace discussed solutions for protecting children online.

Iran’s cyberspace is generally safe for children, considering many obscene websites are blocked. However, the use Virtual Private Networks negates the government’s response to the rising tide of inappropriate websites.

Amir Khorakian, a deputy at the center, stressed that cyberspace has wide-ranging effects on the lives of Iranian children and youths, therefore the center has planned to devise a national plan for protecting children, ISNA reported.

According to the official, the center will provide the infrastructure related to technical matters and content to help realize this goal.

He added that the general outlook on this issue is shared by relevant organizations, hence they must work together in this regard.

“The center has called on all organizations to submit proposals for creating a comprehensive bill for children’s online security,” he said.

During the session, a report was presented on studies conducted by the center regarding online content and possible solutions.

Steps taken by other countries to secure the Internet for children were also surveyed.

Representatives of Islamic Republic of Iran’s Broadcasting, the Ministry of Education and the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults among others attended the meeting.
