Local e-commerce site Bamilo has announced it is taking part in the global trend of Black Friday by offering discounts. Marked after the fourth Thursday of November worldwide, Black Friday officially opens the shopping season by offering discounts. Traditionally the day when retailers’ accounts head into positive territory, it is being offered to Iranian consumers for the first time this year. The so-called second largest general e-retailer is offering prices of up to 80% discount on certain items. The e-retailer, owned by Middle East Investment Company and held by both MTN-Irancell and Germany’s Rocket Internet, aims to offer similar discounts. The best deals on Bamilo’s website is 56% discount on Irancell modems to name one item and also measly discounts on big ticket items like Nikon cameras at only 1%. However, unlike its foreign counterparts, there have been no reports of scuffles for discount televisions in Tehran this weekend. Bamilo’s main competitor Digikala has not taken part in the Nov. 27 promotion.
