Students from Sharif University of Technology ranked eighth at the 22nd International Mathematics Competition (IMC) for University Students in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.

Iran’s mathematics team comprised six students from Sharif University of Technology. They won three gold and three silver medals, Mehr News Agency reported.

Pouya Honaryar, Mohammad Amin Nejatbakhsh and Tina Torkaman each won a gold medal at the event, while Hassan Qaredaghi, Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Salehi and Amir Hossein Ekhlasi each claimed a silver medal.

Other Iranian teams were from Shahid Beheshti University, Isfahan University of Technology and Shiraz University. IMC is an annual mathematics competition open to all undergraduate students of mathematics.

The latest event, held from 27 July to 2 August 2015, was organized by University College London and hosted by the American University in Bulgaria.

The competition fielded students completing their first, second, third or fourth year of university education. Problems pertained to the fields of algebra, analysis (real and complex), geometry and combinatorics.

Over the past 21 competitions, participants from over 200 institutions from over 50 countries have taken part in IMC.
