Goals have been set so that Iran will rank fifth globally in the realm of nanotechnology by the end of the next Iranian year (March 20, 2017), Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari said. In the field of nanotechnology, Iran currently ranks seventh globally, IRNA reported on Friday. “The Hassan Rouhani administration is a big proponent of promoting modern technologies,” the official said at a gala held on Thursday night in support of President Rouhani, at the president’s hometown of Sorkheh in Semnan Province. The administration has made plans to upgrade the global ranking of Iran in different branches of modern technologies and to boost knowledge-based economy. The main priorities are to promote the establishment of more knowledge-based firms and to encourage universities to focus largely on knowledge-based economy. There are about 1,500 such companies in the country, which are is set to increase to 3,500 by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2016).
