The largest gathering of Iranian, American, European and Asian tech investors and professionals is to take place soon in Berlin, Germany.
The event, called iBridges Berlin, will be held on June 4-6 and is expected to attract large tech investors and enthusiasts from around the globe, according to a press release. The event organizers have said iBridges brings together the key players to explore the role that a high-tech entrepreneurial ecosystem can play in Iran’s economic development.
The event will be comprised of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops, as well as visits to local incubators in Berlin. Attendees from Iran fall into two groups: the first group represents established, successful entrepreneurs from the private sector, mainly in information and communication technologies, nanotechnology and molecular biology.
The second group is composed of younger start-ups and innovators who have demonstrated talent and expertise in developing business ideas and/or creating start-up companies in the aforementioned sectors. iBRIDGE Berlin is a sequel to iBRIDGE Berkeley, the conference held at the University of California, Berkeley on September 6, 2014. The initial event had 700 attendees and 1,000 viewers via live stream. The key aim of the event is to tie up entrepreneurs from the US, primarily the expatriate Iranian community and Iranian startups. The event, however, has come under criticism by many in the local community as local online experts have been sidelined by venture capitalists.
