Iranian researchers at the University of Science and Technology have built a robot which can inspect and maintain gas pipelines, ISNA reported on Saturday. The researchers have designed the robot using hydraulic compressed air instead of electric energy. Mohammad Reza Ghahremani, the designer of Rewan Robot, said the device uses optical fiber instead of a normal camera lens and transfers optical fiber images outside of the site. The pictures are then converted to digital photos by means of electronic convertors. Rewan Robot releases nitrogen near its surroundings and prevents sparks resulting from static electricity. It then draws the gas out via suction. This latest device highlights the ingenuity of Iranian researchers in the face of economic and academic sanctions in recent years.
