Export of Machine-Made Carpets

Thirty percent of machine-made carpets are exported to countries like China, Canada, and Afghanistan, Mohammad Hadi Kamalian, the head of carpet exporters union said in a news conference on Monday, as IRNA reported. Iran produces 160 thousand square meters of machine-made carpet, 90 thousand square meters of which are sold domestically. Kamalian noted that importing machine-made carpets is presently not economically viable due to the high import tariffs imposed on them. The economic sanctions, imposed on Iran by the West over its nuclear energy program, have considerably restricted carpet exports to Europe and other major markets.
