First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri will inaugurate the 3rd development phase of Shahid Raja'ee Port today, the Port and Marine Administration of Iran reported on Sunday.
The 3rd phase of Shahid Raja'ee Port, which includes the construction of a 1,500-meter pier, and a 55-hectare container terminal as well as five million cubic meters of dredging, is said to require $500 million. Upon completion, the port's capacity will reach eight million TEU.
Currently, there are eleven commercial ports in Iran and Shaid Raja'ee port is the biggest commercial port amongst them occupying 2,400 hectares of land. According to officials, every year around one hundred million tons of goods are transited via this port to all over the world.
Shahid Raja'ee port is located in Hormozgan province in the south of Iran. Hormozgan province has more than 2400 km of coastline with shores in both the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. It is close to the Strait of Hormuz, which is the most important maritime trade route. Shahid Raja'ee is known as a major container port. There are around 3,500 container ports throughout the world.
The port has trade relations with 80 ports worldwide and more than 35 shipping companies are now working with it.
