The ATR 72-600 planes recently delivered to Iran Air have become operational, with one making its debut flight on domestic routes from Tehran to Mashhad on Friday.

Five new ATR 72-600 planes landed at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport on August 5 and according to the CEO of the Iranian flag carrier, Farzaneh Sharafbafi, three more are likely to be delivered in the near future, IRNA reported.

With the new deliveries, Iran Air has received a total of 13 turboprop regional jets from the Franco-Italian planemaker, as part of its post-sanctions order for 20+20 jets.

The flag carrier has also received three new jets from Airbus to date.

Using its new ATR fleet, Iran Air has launched flights on more than two dozen new routes across the country.

The 72-600 model is capable of transporting 72 passengers for 1,528 kilometers. Enjoying low-consuming twin-engine turboprop, the airplanes are safe and advanced, and they have very low, economical maintenance and operational costs.

They are capable of performing in all kinds of climates and can land even in the toughest climate situations.
