Tunisia, Lebanon and Kenya have been selected as new export destinations for Khorasan Razavi Province after a series of meetings held by officials from Khorasan Razavi Industries, Mining and Trade Organization for establishing trade ties with export target countries.
Khorasan Razavi is a northeastern province bordering Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
Tunisia was picked as a new market for dried fruits, as well as a potential market for saffron, IRNA reported.
Khorasan Razavi, along with adjacent South Khorasan Province, is Iran’s saffron production hub.
“Lebanon was chosen on account of it being a part of the Arab League and having memorandums of understanding with the European Union, which allows Iranian products to go from Lebanon to countries in AL and EU at zero tariff,” Mohammad Ali, the head of Foreign Trade Office of Khorasan Razavi Industries, Mining and Trade Organization, said.
Amirfakhrian noted that the reason for choosing Kenya was that it is an untapped market, suitable for Iranian companies to introduce technical and engineering services in the fields of agriculture, industry, water supply and dam construction.
“There are opportunities for Iran to export food and construction materials to Kenya and since it has a favorable climate, it can be used for outsourcing cultivation of Iranian agricultural products,” he said.
