Just a few days before the beginning of the 2018 World Cup, analysts with football data site Transfermarkt put the value of Iran’s national football team at around £38.3 million ($50.26 million), toward the bottom end of the charts and only more valuable than those of Panama, Saudi Arabia, Peru and Costa Rica. 
Big European and South American sides dominated the upper echelons of player worth, with Spain being the most valuable team with more than £900 million ($1.2 billion).
