Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Trade Jamshid Khodjaev and President of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran Mohammad Khazaei have agreed to establish a joint investment committee to increase trade transactions. Khazaei said cooperation with countries of the region, such as Uzbekistan, is a strategic priority, referring to the upcoming visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Uzbekistan, IRNA reported. He said the committee could outline a roadmap for further cooperation between Tehran and Tashkent in the form of finance and investment. Khodjaev pointed to the firm determination of Uzbekistan’s president for developing cooperation with Iran and said bolstering economic and trade relations between the two countries is of great importance. “More than 100 Iranian companies are active in Uzbekistan,” he said. The Uzbek minister said considering the high capacities of Iran in the industrial sector, Uzbekistan decided to prepare a roadmap for cooperation with Iran in projects in the fields of textile, construction materials, oil, hygienic and medical products and processed agricultural products. Khodjaev made the remarks during a Tehran visit aimed at finalizing a memoranda of understanding on cooperation to be followed up in the upcoming visit of President Rouhani to Uzbekistan.
