Deputy minister of roads and urban development Ahmad Asghari Mehrabadi says 90 percent of Mehr housing units will be completed by the end of next year (March 20, 2016), ISNA reported on Monday. “Some 1,680 thousand housing units have already been completed,” he said in a news conference. About 200 thousand units will be turned over to their owners by the end of this year (March 20, 2015),” he added. The Mehr Hosing Project, initiated in 2007 by the former administration, was expected to provide two million low-income strata of the society with housing units through free land and cheap credits. But the nationwide scheme slowed down later due to the lack of funding. So far, there have been conflicting reports on the extent of the project’s progress.
