The latest National Population and Housing Census conducted in March 2016-17 show Iran has 1,753,960 households headed by single parents (or 7.2% of the total number), of which 83% are headed by women and the rest by men. The figures also show a 19% increase in the number of single parent households compared with the previous figures registered by the census conducted in the fiscal 2011-12. Of the total number of 24,129,490 Iranian households in 2016-17, 87% or 21,067,737 households were headed by men and 12% or 3,061,753 were headed by women, the Statistical Center of Iran reported.
