Cigarette Paper Imports at $14 Million

More than 4,000 tons of cigarette paper worth 474.8 billion rials ($14 million) were imported into Iran during the last Iranian year (March 2017-18), data released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration showed.

Austria with more than $3.89 million was the biggest exporter, followed by China, the UAE, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Hong Kong, Mizan Online reported.

About 49.3 billion cigarettes were produced in Iran in the last fiscal year, registering a 10% rise compared with the year before.

According to Ali Asghar Ramzi, the head of Iranian Tobacco Planning and Supervision Center, domestic cigarette production meets more than 90% of demand in Iran. Iranians annually consume close to 55 billion cigarettes.
