A senior Iranian trade official has announced that the country is trying to find ways to boost its exports to the US, despite the threat of sanctions after Washington’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal.
The Trade Promotion Organization of Iran is preparing the ground for further exports of Iran’s agricultural and food products to the US market, Director of TPO’s Exports Bureau Mahmoud Bazari was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.
Bazari noted that most agricultural and food brands in Iran export their products to the US, adding that exports have high added-value for the Iranian brands.
Referring to the US unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in May, the official hoped that the pullout would not hamper Iranian companies’ exports to the US.
“The exports are carried out through third countries, including Mexico, Canada and certain European states,” he said. Bazari said Iranian companies are seeking to expand exports to the US, adding that Iranian ice creams have already entered the US market recently.
Iran announced in January that it exported its prized caviar to the US after receiving the license from the Food and Drug Administration.
“We have exported 10 kilograms of natural caviar to the US last year after receiving license from the FDA in 2016-17,” Managing Director of Agricultural Services of Specialized Holding Company Abbas Rajaei said.
Rajaei added that Iran intends to increase the export of the precious product to other countries.
