The Eighth Toys and Games Exhibition is scheduled to be held at the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults in Tehran from July 2 to 6.
According to the official website of the event at Expobazi.com, the exhibition will host tens of toy producers showcasing e-games, robots, puzzles and Play-Doh, among others, the Persian economic daily Donya-e-Eqtesad reported.
The event is aimed at supporting domestic production, introducing toys that enhance children’s physical and mental growth, identifying demands and presenting latest achievements.
The expo will run from 9 a.m. through 8 p.m. local time.
According to the chairman of the institute’s Toy Supervision Council Secretariat, Mohsen Hamouleh, per capita consumption of toys in Iran has been over $15 in the past five years while the global average is $34. In the US, it is $35, in Europe $250 and in China $6.3.
The official had told Financial Tribune in an earlier interview that over 25% of toys in the Iranian market are smuggled into the country.
More than 25,000 tons of different kinds of toys worth over 3.18 trillion rials (around $93.24 million) were imported during the last fiscal year (March 2017-18), data released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration showed.
Iran purchased $83.5 million worth of toys from China, making the East Asian country the biggest exporter of the product to Iran. Germany, Spain, Cyprus and Zimbabwe were other main countries from where toys were imported over the period, Mizan Online reported.
