Iranian Cinemas Register 50% Growth in Sales

Iranian cinemas earned 723.47 billion rials ($17.22 million) in box office returns during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21-May 21), registering an increase of more than 50% compared with last year’s corresponding period. About 7.99 million moviegoers went to the cinemas during the two-month period, indicating a 50.56% growth year-on-year, IRNA reported. According to Cinematicket.org, Mehran Ahmadi’s ‘Confiscation’ has been the highest-grossing movie so far since the beginning of the current year, earning 154.87 billion rials ($3.68 million), followed by ‘Lottery’ directed by Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian with 145.95 billion rials ($3.47 million) and Damascus Time by Ebrahim Hatamikia with 130 billion rials ($3.09 million). A report by FPG shows Iranian cinema takings stood at a record high of 1.63 trillion rials ($43.22 million) last year, up 123% compared with the previous year. The total number of viewers stood at 23.6 million during the period.
