Kiosks Will Be Banned From Selling Cigarettes

Street kiosks and newsstands will be banned from selling tobacco and snacks during a new round of lease agreement the municipality is set to sign with them, the managing director of Tehran Municipality’s Organizing Industries and Urban Jobs Company has announced. “Penalties for flouting the ban could include fines or even closure,” ISNA also quoted Farhad Afshar as saying. Iranians spend up to 80 billion rials ($1.9 million) on smoking daily and the cost of treating tobacco-related diseases is almost three times the amount spent on tobacco consumption.
