Kurdestan: Iran’s Strawberry Production Hub

The western Kurdestan Province accounts for 75% of Iran’s strawberry production, the head of Kurdestan Agriculture Jihad Organization said. Khaled Jafari also told Mehr News Agency that the province’s annual output of strawberries stands at 45,000 tons, adding that 13,000 households are involved in the cultivation of the fruit. “Strawberry production earns 900 billion rials ($21.42 million) a year for the province,” he said. Agriculture is Kurdestan Province’s strongest suit, as the sector has a 27% share in its gross domestic product and 30% in job creation.
