Iran exported $202 million of hand-woven rugs in the first eight months of the current year (March 21- November 21), as industry remains popular in foreign markets, Hamid Kargar, the head of Iran’s National Carpet Center (INCC) told IRNA on Saturday. Above 3,900 tons of hand-woven carpets were exported to 80 countries over the period, which shows a 24 percent rise compared with the same duration last year, he said. Iranian hand-woven carpet is one of the mainstays of the country’s resurgent economy by creating currency inflow. Iran has more than 25 percent of the world’s hand-woven carpets market. Close to 2.3 million people are directly involved in the domestic carpet industry.
