The number of government employees stood at 2,341,726 in the Iranian year that ended March 20, 2017, registering no significant rise compared with 15 years ago (March 2001-2), the Statistical Center of Iran reported.
Men and women accounted for 69% and 31% of the total number of public employees in the fiscal 2001-2, but in 2016-17, men constituted 59% and women 41% of civil servants.
In 2016-17, 43% of government employees were working for the Ministry of Education and 18% for the Ministry of Health and Medical Education while the remaining 39% were employed by other governmental agencies.
About 20% of civilian workers had not finished high school in the year ending March 2002 while 29% held high school diploma, 21% associate degree, 27% held bachelor’s degree, 2% master’s degree and 1.6% held PhDs.
Fifteen years later, employees with education below diploma accounted for 5%, high school diploma 17%, associate degree 15%, bachelor’s degree 50%, master’s degree 10% and PhD holders made up 4% of civil employees.
