During the Persian year 1392 – started 21 March 2013 – Iran’s fishery sector supplied the market with 880,000 tons of fish, out of which 500,000 tons was from fishing in northern and southern waters, while 380,000 tons was produced by aquaculture. The figure shows a 3% rise in fishing and a 10% rise in fish farming compared to the previous year. In 1392, the country produced over 140,000 tons of cold water fish, 170,000 tons of hot water fish, and 13,000 tons of shrimp. The Iranian Fisheries Organization is the main agency responsible for fisheries and aquaculture management in the country.
