Tehran-North Railroad Feasibility Project Gets Going

Tehran-North Railroad feasibility project has gotten underway and is estimated to take at least two years, Mazandaran Governor General Mohammad Eslami said on Monday.

“If the project is approved by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the construction of the railroad will commence in the fiscal 2020-21. The first section of the Tehran-North Railroad will connect Alborz and Gilan provinces to Mazandaran. The second phase will connect Bandar Anzali city in Gilan to west Mazandaran and from there to Iran’s northeastern Golestan Province,” Eslami was quoted as saying by IRNA.

The official added that the Roads Ministry is looking for local and foreign investors to take on the project.

“Once the national project is completed, around 200,000 passengers are estimated to travel via this route every day,” he said.

Mazandaran hosts more than 20 million tourists and passengers annually. Rail and air transportation account for only 2 million of the total number of trips to this province.
