Garmsar-Incheh Borun Railroad Electrification Awaits Funds

The project to electrify the 430-kilometer-long Garmsar-Sari-Gorgan-Incheh Borun Railroad will kick off in the current Iranian year (started March 21), the deputy head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways for planning and investment said.

“The project is awaiting the opening of the letter of credit worth $1.2 billion by Russia,” Nourollah Beiranvand was also quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

The contract for the project was signed by the two sides in 2015.

“As per the agreement, the electric locomotives will be manufactured in Iran and in cooperation with Iranian firms,” Mohsen Pourseyyed-Aqaei, former managing director of IRIR, said at the time.

The official added that the implementation of the project would increase the route’s transit capacity to 8 million tons per year.
