In the recently ended fishing season (Oct. 12, 2017-April 14), bony fish output in the northern Mazandaran Province bordering the Caspian Sea amounted to around 2,700 tons, marking a rise of 17.5% compared to the previous year, according to the caretaker of the province’s Fisheries Organization.
“This amount of fish was worth 700 billion rials ($16.7 million), indicating a 35% rise year-on-year. The fish mainly harvested included the Caspian Kutum, mullet and common carp,” Valiollah Mohammadzadeh was also quoted as saying by ILNA. Every year, more than 4,200 fishermen engage in fishing along 338 kilometers of coastline in Mazandaran for six months.  Due to the low temperature of Caspian Sea water this year, the fishing season was extended by 10 days.
