Namibia said it is interested in working with Iran in the fields of agribusiness and agricultural production.

Namibia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted this on Thursday in a statement on the occasion of Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s visit to Namibia, Xinhua reported.

“The sector has been comparatively productive and we are exporting our products such as grapes and beef to international markets,” she added.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Windhoek on Thursday and held meetings with senior political, economic and parliamentary officials. At their meeting, Nandi-Ndaitwah welcomed the decision by Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company to set up a tractor assembly plant near Windhoek.

“This is timely as it will create much needed technology transfer, employment and boost trade between the two countries,” she said.

She said the visit provides the two countries with opportunities to review progress made in bilateral cooperation and discuss the prospects in various sectors.

Meanwhile, the first high-level Iran Economic Forum, organized by the Iranian Embassy in Namibia in conjunction with the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, aimed at encouraging business dialogue and exploring business opportunities in Namibia and Iran, was also convened on Thursday. Namibia was Zarif’s last leg of his African and South American tour that took him to Senegal, Brazil and Uruguay.
