The inflation rate in Iran’s rural areas reached 16 percent in the Iranian month of Azar (ending December 21), down 17.3 percent from one month earlier, a recent report released by the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) shows. The consumer price index (CPI) in rural areas stood at 213.2 points in Azar, showing an increase of 2.2 percent compared to one month earlier and 14.1 percent compared to the same month last year. The CPI for food, beverages, and tobacco group stood at 237.3 points in Azar, showing a 4.1 percent increase compared to the prior month. The CPI for non-food items and services reached 196.9 points in Azar, registering a 0.8 percent increase compared to the previous months, and 16.6 percent increase compared to the same month last year, the report said.
