The first cargo will be officially imported through the Inche Boroun railway on January 7, IRNA reported. An 8,000-ton cargo of wheat will be the first freight transported via this route, Mohammadreza Ghorbani, the head of railway organization of northern Iran said. The long-awaited transnational railway linking Central Asia with the Persian Gulf was officially inaugurated last month in a ceremony at a remote train station on the border of Iran and Turkmenistan. It is estimated that initially three to five million metric tons of cargo per year will be transported via this route. In the long term the volume is set to increase to 10-12 million metric tons, the official added.
