Iran and its southern neighbor, the United Arab Emirates, have discussed ways to boost their ties in air transportation, direct flights, and aviation training, Fars news agency reported yesterday. In his meeting with the UAE ambassador to Tehran, the chairman of Civil Aviation Organization referred to the high volume of transactions between the two countries and said that Iran is poised to expand its interactions with the UAE specifically in terms of air transportation. “Four Emirati airliners are active in Iran and operate 52 flights per week,” the Iranian official Alireza Jahangirian said. “Iranian airliners operate 140 flights to the UAE every week.” Jahangirian described Iran as a lucrative market for Emirati airliners. Iran and the UAE have had close economic and historic relations for many years, the Emirati official Mohammad Obeid Az-Zahabi said. The trade volume between Iran and Dubai is $20 billion, he added.
