The Agricultural Support Services Company affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture has so far supplied around 1.9 million tons of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium fertilizers to farmers in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2017), of which 80% have been supplied by domestic producers, the CEO of the company said.

Hamid Rasouli added that the remaining 20% have been imported from the Netherlands, Bulgaria, China and Lebanon, Mehr News Agency reported.

“More than 1.6 million tons of these fertilizers have already been delivered to farmers across the country. We have over 300,000 tons of fertilizers stored in warehouses, which will be used in the spring cultivation of crops. We will not be facing any shortage in the field,” he said.

Rasouli noted that based on a report by the Soil and Water Research Institute, Iran’s agriculture sector annually needs about 4 million tons of fertilizers.

Domestic fertilizer use stands at a third of global standards.
