The number of flights from Iraq to Iran is likely to increase, as an attempt by the Iraqi government to encourage more Iranian tourists to visit Iraq, Ali Jahangiri, the chairman of Civil Aviation Organization, said on Wednesday. In a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Saad Mahdi Saeed Al-Khafaji, Jahangiri said “the move is aimed at facilitating travel between Iran and Iraq for citizens of both countries. He said that Iran is ready to help Iraqi Airlines to increase the number of flights to Iran. Al-Khafjai, for his part, expressed hope that the number of Iranian pilgrims visiting Iraq would increase as soon as security situation is improved. Large numbers of Iranian pilgrims visit Shiite holy cities in Iraq each year.
