Two rail projects, namely Malayer-Firouzan-Kermanshah and Mahabad-Urmia railroads, will become operational during the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations (February 1-11), marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The announcement was made by Jabbar Ali Zakeri, a board member of the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company, affiliated to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
The two projects are among the government’s seven prioritized rail projects in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2017), one of which, the 270-kilometer-long Tehran-Hamedan Railroad, was inaugurated on May 8.
According to Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Kheirollah Khademi, the remaining four projects, namely Qazvin-Rasht, Mianeh-Bostanabad, Yazd-Mehriz and Khaf-Herat railroads, will come on stream by the end of the current fiscal (March 2016-17).
The official, who is also the CEO of Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company, added that Firouzan-Kermanshah Railroad (110 km long) has made over 80% progress and over $90.37 million have been spent on it so far.
More than $102 million have been spent on the 97-kilometer-long Mahabad-Urmia Railroad to connect West Azarbaijan Province to the national rail network. The rail route has made more than 90% progress and needs $62 million for completion.
