The government decided in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday to grant 318 billion rials ($7.25 million) in aid to animal and fish farms that incurred losses in the recent Kermanshah Province’s earthquake.

As such, close to 8,880 animal farms and 168 fish farms will receive grants from the government, ILNA reported.

Alireza Tabesh, the head of the Housing Foundation of Islamic Revolution, said 20,000 houses in Kermanshah have been referred to banks, of which 9,300 have each received 180 million rials ($4,160) in grant.

The 7.3 magnitude earthquake rocked Kermanshah Province and the regions bordering Iraq on Nov. 8, killing hundreds of people and injuring thousands of others.

“The earthquake inflicted an estimated loss of around 8 trillion rials ($200 million) on the agriculture sector of Kermanshah,” Khosro Shahbazi, the head of Kermanshah Agricultural Jihad Organization, said almost a fortnight after the earthquake struck.

Noting that the estimated losses suffered by fisheries stand at 170 billion rials ($4.25 million), Shahbazi said the loss of livestock includes 197,000 head of light livestock worth 1,400 billion ($35 million), 3,800 head of heavy livestock worth 160 billion rials ($4 million), 10,000 honeybee colonies worth 30 billion rials ($750,000) and 115,000 chickens worth 12 billion rials (300,000).
