President in Chabahar

President Hassan Rouhani and several cabinet members arrived in the southern port’s city of Chabahar on Wednesday to inspect the port facilities, railway network and petrochemical development plans. According to IRNA, Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohammad Shariatmadari who traveled to the city one day earlier, presented a report of projects underway in the city such as the Shahid Beheshti Port, the Chabahar-Zahedan railway, a petrochemical plant, a refinery and several steels plants. Speaking at a ceremony on Wednesday, Shariatmadari called for the creation of a trade zone in the city. In a meeting with a number of local managers, Shariatmadari discussed the projects for which most of the managers called for urgent funding. Shariatmadari expressed satisfaction about the progress of the projects in Chabahar over the past months drawing a bright future for the city and Makran. The official announced that the president’s second visit to the region in less than eight months indicates that the government is closely monitoring economic developments in key regions like Chabahar.
