Iranian medical equipment is bought and resold under European brands in underdeveloped countries, Reza Kompany, secretary of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Medical Equipment, told ISNA on Monday. According to a report released by the customs office, Iran exported $13 million worth of medical equipment to 44 countries. However, in some cases the products sold to European nations are re-exported to third countries at higher prices, Kompany remarked. Fifty percent of Iran’s needs for medical equipment are fulfilled by domestic manufacturers, and the rest is met through imports. Iran imported $832 million worth of medical equipment last year, the official said.
