President Hassan Rouhani on Monday appointed Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, vice president for strategic planning and supervision, as the head of the newly-revived Management and Planning Organization.
The president on Saturday officially endorsed a decision made earlier by the Supreme Administrative Council to revive the MPO with a new organizational structure.
The planning body, formerly known as the Plan and Budget Organization, was dissolved in 2007 following a direct order from the former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The body was in charge of evaluating the country’s resources and preparing medium and long-term development plans as well as the annual budget. So far, the vice presidency office for strategic planning and supervision has played the MPO’s role.
