Afghanistan’s western Herat Province is hosting the 12th edition of a joint exhibition showcasing the products of the two countries, including home appliances, industrial machinery, medical devices agricultural products.

The event opened on Tuesday and will run through Friday.

According to IRNA’s report, 40 companies from Iran and 10 from Afghanistan are participating in the exposition.

Jaber Ansar, Afghanistan’s commercial attaché to Iran, said Afghanistan imports about $11.5 billion worth of consumer goods annually and Iran accounts for $2.5 billion (22%) of the total sum.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration’s data show Afghanistan was the fifth biggest export destination for Iran’s non-oil products during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Oct. 22), as Iran exported $1.58 billion worth of non-oil goods to the neighboring country over the period, up 16.11% year-on-year.

Afghanistan’s exports to Iran have been as little as a dozen million dollars on average over the past decade.
