Farmers want the Rouhani administration to increase the guaranteed price for wheat at the official exchange rates, Masoud Asadi, the chairman of the supervision council of agricultural associations said, Fars news agency reported on Saturday. The guaranteed price for wheat was 1,155 rials per kilogram in the last crop year and the administration is expected to set the prices in accordance with the inflation rate, he said. Therefore, the guaranteed price of wheat should reach at least 12,700 rials this year, while it now stands at 1,155 rials. Wheat farmers say they are not willing to sell their output to state buyers as the administration the administration spends less on the purchase of wheat from them than the figure it pays for importing wheat. The private sector buys wheat from farmers at a higher price and farmers prefer to sell their crops to the private sector.
