The traditional method of conducting population census based on the nationwide survey of households will no longer be employed as of the National Population and Housing Census in the fiscal 2021-22, the head of Statistical Center of Iran said. “Transition from traditional to register-based census will reduce costs to the statistical agency by 80%,” Mehr News Agency also quoted Omid Ali Parsa as saying.  Registered-based census is a method of producing data on population, households and dwellings by the statistical linking of administrative and statistical data sources without using fieldwork enumeration. The latest national census began nationwide as of Sept. 24, 2016, and ended on November 18 in two phases of online and door-to-door registration.  It put Iran’s population over 79.92 million, which is about 4.77 million more compared to the previous figure registered by the census conducted in the fiscal 2011-12.
