Iran exported about $70 million worth of apparel last year (March 2016-17) to mainly customers in Afghanistan, Iraq and Central Asian countries, a member of Iran Textile Exporters and Manufacturers Association said.

Majid Nami added that plans are underway to export garments to Germany and Italy, ISNA reported.

According to Nami, the Iranian apparel market is worth close to $12 billion.

“Turkey and China are two major exporters of clothing into the country,” he said.

“Based on estimates, some 30-50% of Iran’s apparel demand are met domestically.”
