Deciding Minimum Wage

A top advisor to the Assembly of Workers’ Representatives said on Tuesday that workers are expecting to get a fair pay rise in the upcoming year, which is to start on March 21, 2015. Faramarz Tofiqi said as for this year workers who earn less than 18,000,000 rials a month are considered to be below the poverty line while the minimum wage is 6,089,000 rials. The labor ministry has asked the Supreme Association of Employers to put forward its proposal for next year’s minimum wage. Every year, in the run-up to the Iranian New Year, there are heated debates to decide about the minimum wage which workers say is set without considering the poverty line.
