President Hassan Rouhani’s Chief of Staff Mohammad Nahavandian said on Monday that the government’s role in the economy must be minimized in favor of the private sector. It is incumbent upon the government to encourage and empower the private sector if recovery it to be achieved, he said, warning officials not to look at the private sector as a potential contender. The official also called for improvement of business environment in a bid to turn Iran into a favorite destination for foreign investors. To that end, Nahavandian said transparency in rules and regulations is a principle.
