Iranian chain stores have a 120-trillion-rial ($3.2 billion) share of the country’s 1.3-quadrillion-rial ($34.6 billion) retail market, the head of National Union of Chain Stores, Amir Khosro Fakhrian, said.

The current 9.2% share has been steadily on the rise in recent years, as it stood at 3% five years ago and increased to 7% in the last Iranian year (March 2016-17).

“There are 10 direct jobs for each 200 meters of a chain store in Iran,” he said, adding that 25,000 people are now working in Iranian chain stores, IRNA reported.

Close to 1.8 million retail outlets are operating across the country, that is one for every 44 Iranians.

The National Union of Chain Stores was founded in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2017), as more companies are exploring ways and means of building big shopping centers.

The union is in charge of issuing licenses for chain stores, besides supervising their activities.
