More than 78,000 tons of different kinds of dates worth around $80 million were exported to 72 countries in the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 22), the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration announced. Each ton of Iranian dates was sold at an average price of $1,023 in the international market, the news portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture reported. Pakistan with close to $11.5 million worth of purchases was the biggest customer of Iranian dates, followed by Iraq with $11.1 million, India with $10.99 million, Turkey with $9.3 million, Kazakhstan with $6.1 million, Afghanistan with $5.7 million and the UAE with $3.5 million. Iran is the world’s second largest producer of dates after Egypt and the biggest exporter of the fruit.
