700,000 Old Cars to Be Scrapped

Some 700,000 old cars will be scrapped by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2018), the deputy head of Iran’s Transportation and Fuel Management Headquarters said. “Last year (March 2016-17), we scrapped 240,000 automobiles,” Alireza Ahmadi was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. “At present, at least 1.25 million old cars in Iran need to be scrapped.” The headquarters, which is affiliated to the Presidential Office, is tasked with devising and overseeing policies related to fuel subsidies, public transportation, fuel conservation and air pollution.
